Thanx for speaking up, actually I'm with Great Council of Moscow with all my heart, but well, still it's part of Orthodox art now, unfortunately...

For many centuries the representation of the three biblical Persons as angels has been the only representation admited of the Holy Trinity and it is still considered in the Orthodox Church as the one that reflects best it`s teachings.
The representation of the Father as an old man, the Son as Emanuel in His lap, and the Holy Spirit as a dove, it`s called „Paternity” and it is the representation in painting of „Filioque”.
The oldest painting of this type is a manuscript in the Vatican Library dating from the XI century. The West has adopted it as iconography of the Holy Trinity. And further by Russia and the countries near it. Now this image has became very popular.
But the Great Council of Moscow, in 1667 has rejected this representation because it doesn`t correspond to the teaching of the Orthodox Church.
These are only some phrases from the book of L.Uspensky and V.Losky- The Meaning of Icons. There are many dogmatical problems to be said about this...
Sorry if someone gets upset by this comment, but I have to say these things because they concern the truth of the Ortodoxy.
