It is true that this style of art was mostly developed during the years of the Great Schism and the construction of the big Abbeys in Western Europe; although many Historians of Art support that the beginning was at least three centuries before. I found my self more close to this idea for several reasons. But it is accepted by all that this style is a combination of Byzantine and Roman elements.
