"Svibor" - Serbian chivalry fighting
This is the first time this kind of performance has been organised in this monastery (nevertheless, the fighting is REAL). All the knights are Orthodox Christian believers practicing with the blessing of His Holiness Patriarch Pavle. They are trying to reconstruct and revive traditional Serbian chivalry and medieval combat skills from all possible sources. Unfortunately, they finance themselves (this says a lot about our government) while similar associations in the rest of Europe are financed by their governments. They were in Poland in 2004 and were impressed by the organisation of similar traditional chivalry brotherhoods.
They say it is impossible to be a knight in the modern way of waging wars - e.g. a woman presses a button somewhere in the Mediterranean and 'scores' the centre of Belgrade. Still, they point out that it is possible to LIVE as a knight - one should behave like a Christian (to friends AND enemies). Knighthood is the way of life, fighting being the final means - anyone can learn to fight; DEFEAT YOURSELF - that's the goal!
